Big Screen Crushes That Crushed Their Performances

So by now you’ve listened to me and Rachel M, the host of ‘In Slow Motion,’ talk at length about her big screen crush, Thomas from ‘Maze Runner,’ played by the adorable and talented Dylan O’Brien…right? If not, click this and then right back here to check out some big screen crushes I have on actors who, like Dylan did with Thomas, absolutely crushed their performances in those roles.

Alicia Silverstone, ‘Clueless

There are so many reasons as to why ‘Clueless’ can and should never be remade, and #1 is Alicia Silverstone’s performance as Cher. Iconic.

Michael Keaton, ‘Beetlejuice’

I’ve likely admitted this either on the show or in writing at some point but until Michael Keaton got that Oscar buzz for ‘Birdman,’ I had NO CLUE that the person who played Beetlejuice was an actor that went on to have other roles. That’s how enamored I was/am with this character and performance.

Kristen Wiig, ‘Bridesmaids’

Annie Walker may be a hot mess but Wiig as Annie Walker is fucking perfection.

Bill Hader, ‘The Skeleton Twins’

All it takes is one watch of this and you’re like yes, genius.

Anna Chlumsky, ‘My Girl’

When you take into account that Anna Chlumsky was no more than 11-years-old when she did this movie and that she managed to hold her own next to Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis, hands down one of the best child actors – ever.

Macaulay Culkin, ‘Home Alone 2’

I love the first ‘Home Alone’ but with New York City as the backdrop – the sequel is so much better to me and I just love Macaulay Culkin. Like I’m absolutely in love with him and just about everything he’s done so I could’ve easily placed any role here for him but since I already have someone from ‘My Girl,’ we’ll go with this. Oh, ‘The Good Son?’ Yeah, any role would’ve been fine here for me when it comes to Culkin and his ability to just own a role.

Whoopi Goldberg, ‘Sister Act 2’

Like with ‘Home Alone,’ I do believe the sequel to ‘Sister Act’ is better and I’ve seen it WAY more times than the first. With that, it’s all because Whoopi brings so much to Sister Mary Clarence. I mean, listen to how much me and Rodney talked about this movie when he came through to chat about his crush on Lauryn Hill.

Daniel Kaluuya, ‘Get Out’

I’m still scratching my head as to how this man did not win an Oscar for this role. I mean…we know why, but still…

Pam Grier, ‘Jackie Brown’

This movie didn’t even get on my radar until I met my guy. It’s his favorite from Tarantino and after watching it, I can see why. Now I tend to watch it any time I see it’s on because Pam Grier fucking owning every second of that movie is addicting as fuck, and fun as hell to watch.

Anton Yelchin, ‘Jack’

Have you ever watched a random ass movie because there is nothing else on? That was me when ‘Jack’ appeared on my TV back in high school. No, not the ‘Jack’ I wrote about earlier this week, but the 2004 movie starring the late Anton Yelchin. I didn’t know who he was at the time but it was one of the first times I consciously thought, oh my god – this person is an amazing actor. Anton was also one of the first people I remember crushing on based solely on talent. So much so, I even watched ‘Star Trek’ just for him, but it all started in that random ass movie, ‘Jack.’
