Stephen King expert I am not. That’s why I invited Kasey Box from An Evening at the Movies and Literature Reapers on the show this week to talk all about King’s work from books to TV to film. So when it came time to write what’s below I was like, hmm…where do I go from here? I looked through all of Stephen King’s work that had been adapted or grown upon in film and TV and yeah, I had barely seen ten of them, so I decided to go through them and let you know my quick thoughts on each in no particular order, so here we go!
The Shining
Right off the bat, I’m cheating because I’ve never actually seen ‘The Shining.’ What I have seen is a very interesting documentary about the movie that had something to do with faking the moon landing. It was years ago at USC, and I went with my horror-loving old roommate. Did it convince me to watch the movie? No, but I didn’t think I needed to after it was said and done. I got the jist of it.
It
You put some kids on bikes and have them solve shit, I’m in. Plus, the kids cast in this were just amazing all around.
Castle Rock
The first season was confusing but entertaining, but it didn’t need to go on past that.
The Green Mile
This is one of a handful of movies I’ll never watch again. Not because it’s bad. Oh no, it was quite good. It’s just too much for me to handle emotionally and I’d rather not cry to the point where snot is running down my face again.
Shawshank Redemption
A couple of years ago my mom was in a nursing home and I wanted to deep clean her trailer as it’d been decades since it’d seen that kind of love. While I was there my stepdad was watching ‘Shawshank’ and I quite enjoyed the bits and pieces I overheard as I was in the depths of a refrigerator that should’ve been labeled a health hazard.
Doctor Sleep
My husband is a big King fan, so we streamed this and I was not mad about it.
The Outsider
You can check out my love of Jason Bateman’s ‘The Outsider’ right here.
The Rage: Carrie 2
This had some insanely memorable scenes. The one where she slit throats with flying CDs, and the pool cover.
Under the Dome
I think I tried to watch one episode of this. It was not something that made me run back for more.
It Chapter Two
Bill Hader was great, but other than that – the plot was too jumbled and it fell flat.
