The Robotics of a Nice Guy Crush

In 9th grade, I got a McDonald’s toy for $1.82 and named him Blink. For years Blink would be in the pictures with famous favorites because I just didn’t have the mental capacity to be in because I was very much against seeing myself in any form, be it in a picture or a mirror. In hindsight, that’s great because I have none of those embarrassing MySpace selfies to look back on. With that, Blink has met a lot more people than the average person, and with every picture comes a story, but since we talked to Beth Conner about her nice guy crush, we’re going to take a look back at the nicest celebrities, both nice guys and gals, that graciously posed with a random toy when I asked, “Will you take a picture with my robot?”

Selena Gomez

It was the premiere of ‘Another Cinderella Story,’ and instead of focusing on what was the start of my senior year in college, I decided to spend a Saturday afternoon by myself at The Grove, trying to meet whatever Disney stars I could. I have a lot of pictures from this day, but there are two that I’m 100% sure I would not be able to get today, and one of them is with Selena Gomez. It was her movie, and she did not have to do this, but she did and fun fact – this picture was taken and used as someone’s icon on LiveJournal. I was like, OMG, BLINK!

Billy Gibbons, ZZ Top

You think that you’re only ever going to see famous people in the likes of LA or New York City, but as a birthday dinner for a friend in Riverside – there was Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top just chilling at the bar. He was incredibly sweet and took not one but two photos with Blink. Still one of the coolest run-ins I’ve ever had.

Miriam McDonald & Nina Dobrev

Cassie Steele from ‘Degrassi’ fame was doing music at the time and played a show at The Knitting Factory, and we thought, we have to go! Not only did we meet her afterward, but also some other ‘Degrassi’ alum, including Emma and Mia, aka Miriam McDonald and Nina Dobrev.

Johnny Knoxville

“You want to take it with my pee bag?” is probably the funniest thing someone has ever said to me, and as you can tell from the photo – that’s Blink, Johnny Knoxville, and Johnny Knoxville’s catheter bag.

Sharon & Ozzy Osbourne

Fall Out Boy was playing The Troubadour, and after a night of sleeping outside in line, we heard that the Osbournes were across the street at the pet store. We ran over, got a group shot, and then Blink had his own meet-and-greet with them. I think Sharon’s gotten some heat in recent years, but on that day, those two were super cool to a group of tired as fuck FOB fans.

Ashley Tisdale

As I’ve said multiple times on Crushgasm, I was not cool in college – nor have I ever been, and I’ll never be. However, I wasn’t cool in college because while most were partying, I was obsessing over the ‘High School Musical’ trilogy. So you can imagine how stoked I was when we were out to eat in Burbank, and Sharpay Evans herself was there! I was nervous to approach her, but she turned out to be a sweetheart.

Johnny Yong Bosch

If you can’t tell by the pose, that’s a motherfucking Power Ranger! The second black Ranger, to be exact. I bet he’s done this pose a million times, so I appreciated him doing it a million and one with Blink as his Morpher.

Taylor Swift

This is the other picture from that ‘Cinderella’ premiere that I’m sure I’d never get the chance to take again. Taylor Swift was months from releasing ‘Fearless,’ and I think she was more in the news at the time for dating Joe Jonas – so this was literally seconds from her being the untouchable force of nature she now is. What I remember from our interaction is her being a little awkward but nice.

Seth Green

If you’ve ever wondered what Seth Green was like, just know he has to be one of the coolest people with fame to his name.

The Gang

If you were around earlier this week, you know that Charlie Day is one of my ultimate nice guy crushes and that I got to be in one of the live shows when they toured. And I gotta say, nicest cast you’ll ever encounter. I have pictures with the rest, but these are the ones I pulled because they’re from three different instances; The Troubadour, ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ and the Palladium.
