A Small Screen Geeky Crush

Does everyone have an innate need to fill their heart with the five tropes John Hughes imprinted into the minds of generations with ‘The Breakfast Club?’ I would bet at least $6 bucks on it, and at a later date we will dive into that a bit more but for now I want to focus on Anthony Michael Hall’s trope; the geek

Nerdlings aren’t always the first type we fall for, but in the back of everyone’s mind, they can recall at least one geekier person they’ve looked at and got those positive crushing feelings. Some might have spawned from the classroom, but for many of us – they are fictional beings like Brian Johnson. This week CJ Tucker revealed his geeky crush, a woman who was the millennial McLovin of her day, a witch – in the best way possible. More on her later, because it’s time to focus on a recent geek crush from TV that wiggled her way into my heart, Quinta Brunson’s Janine Teagues from the hit series ‘Abbott Elementary.’

Janine Teagues is a geek in the same way I was one as a kid. My current coworkers have reminded me though, that I still give off big Janine Teagues energy because I love a long skirt and am always eager to make the school (and world) a better place despite Earth actually being a cruel, insane asylum planet we appear to be stranded on. I push forward though, hoping that it will get better; just like Janine. We also have similar hair sometimes, so that could also be it. People love to compare based solely on manes.

The fictional educator is also a geek because of the way she merely exists. A lot of the time she can make things awkward for those around her because she is a little weird, but it’s one of the most charming things about her. The same can be said about her Dad Jokes, oversized sweaters, and inability to seem cool whenever presented with a situation that calls for one to be cool.

There have been a million and one characters with these geeky elements that have come and gone, and that will continue to fill the landscape that is the small screen. Janine Teagues is just one of them and one of my current favorites. As this week continues to be like the overworked teacher and push forward we’ll discuss CJ Tucker’s geeky crush, as well as take a look at some of the best geeks TV has had to offer.
