Author Joni B. Cole came through this week to talk about her writer crush, Mindy Kaling. When the world shut down in 2020, she found herself binging and becoming enthralled with ‘The Mindy Project’, and from there, admiration grew. It inspired me to talk about my love of another comedy writer, Anders Holm AKA that tall guy from Comedy Central’s ‘Workaholics’ earlier this week. With that, I’m going to keep that trend going and talk about some other writer crushes I have based solely on their ability to write things that make me chuckle.
Quinta Brunson
Bless her for ‘Abbott Elementary.’
Michael Che
Whenever this man writes jokes for Colin Jost to say, we win as a society.
Tig Notaro
My favorite deadpan comedian.
Dan Soder
In my head, this man and I are distant cousins because of the way he can make light of his fucked up childhood; same.
Elizabeth Meriwether
Where would I be without a ‘New Girl’ obsession in my 20s?
Michael Schur
‘The Office,’ ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine,’ and ‘The Good Place.’ Need I say more?
Bob the Drag Queen
I’m glad I’ve gotten to exist in the same timeline as Bob the Drag Queen.
Maya Erskine
She wasn’t alone in creating and crafting ‘Pen15,’ but she did write my absolute favorite and most relatable episode (the third episode of the first season).
Marc Daniels
‘I Love Lucy’ set the standard, and for that – I salute you, Marc Daniels.
Suzanne Martin
She wrote on ‘Frasier’ and then went on to create ‘Hot in Cleveland.’ So yeah, you could say I’m in love.
