The Workaholic Writer Crush

When I started watching ‘Workaholics’ it was already a couple of seasons in and I was instantly taken with one of the guys because that’s how my brain works. You have to have a favorite in everything you consume. Blake was the sweetest character and our hair matched. That’s pretty much all it took. Fast forward years later when a pandemic pushed a lot of actors into podcasting, including the guys behind the Comedy Central series. After hours of listening, a new crush formed on one of the men who helped pen a lot of the episodes that gave me so many laughs, Anders Holm.

His character was always my second favorite because he played the almost-straight guy compared to the frantic chaos the others presented, sort of like my beloved Kyle from ‘South Park.’ So I did like that aspect, but the real-life Anders presented so much more. He was this cynical creative that I just started to become more and more enamored with. Does he sometimes take it too far? I mean, his hatred of dogs in public spaces, I’d fight him to the death about that…but for the most part, I find his old-man hatred of most things to be endearing.

Plus, he’s not just someone I know from ‘Workaholics.’ I also enjoyed him getting violated from behind in ‘Top Five’ as well as his run on ‘The Mindy Project.’ Man, she really had the best love interests in TV history, hasn’t she? Anyway, Anders has always been around but wasn’t in the crush tier until I came to know the guy behind the characters, and again, he’s not perfect. He hates the best creatures on earth, dogs. Also, listening to him talk, and how quick he is with with – that’s what made my heart initially perk up.

My family is naturally funny. It’s probably because we mask serious talks and deep feelings with humor, so making a joke out of everything – that’s sort of a love language for me. I like people who I know could make me laugh at a funeral. The type of people who read the room and say, fuck it and say the wrong thing, but in the best way. See, there’s an art form to being comedically dark, and not everyone has that. Anders Holm has that, for the most part. There have been instances where even I was like, damn…that might be a little too dark, even for me.

But yes, listening to how fast Anders was with comebacks, jokes, and these outlandish scenarios when on the podcast, ‘This Is Important,’ I was like, okay – this man intrigues me. Like I said before, he’s also someone who penned a lot of the series, as well as their Netflix movie, ‘Game Over, Man!’ With a creative writing mind like that, I couldn’t help but fall head over heels for this man.

Writing has the power to entertain, educate, and so much more but this week writing it what led us to some crushes, we’re talking with author Joni B. Cole about her writing crush and ironically enough, it was during 2020 that she found her writing crush. Those who know me will know, but Joni’s writer crush is my top 3 writing muse. Find out who Joni crushes on when this week’s episode drops later this week!
