The Characterization of Crushin on Black Folks in Horror

Harvey from Men Are The P.R.I.Z.E. and Love is Black as well as Diandre from Mass-Debaters came through to talk about all things related to Black folks and horror. Whether or not, indeed, Black people often die first in those films, the representation shift in the ‘90s, Jordan Peele’s impact, and more. So to wrap up this week we’ll be looking at some of our favorite Black folks who’ve given it their all and made horror movies their own.

Brenda Meeks, Scary Movie

‘Scary Movie’ took every stereotype and trope in and out of horror and spun it into two amazing movies.

Candyman, Candyman

I still won’t utter this man’s name.

Rochelle Zimmerman, The Craft

Read more about why Rochelle is a horror icon right here

Chris Washington, Get Out

Get Out’ will forever be one of my favorites and Daniel Kaluuya will forever be ingrained into horror not only because of this one, but ‘Nope’ as well.

Karla Wilson, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

Brandy proved she was more than a singer and a princess when she survived this vacation!

Fool, The People Under the Stairs

This movie scared the shit out of me as a kid. Why did my mom rent this…

Devon Evans, Chucky

Representing for a whole new generation on the new ‘Chucky’ series.

Akasha, Queen of the Damned

Will always wonder what was next for Aaliyah, especially in horror.

Dewayne, The Blackening

The gem of this 2023 gem.

Red, Us

Rabbits are my favorite animal so yeah, Red done fucked me up.
