Live-Action Disney Crush: The VHS Collection

With David Dollar of ‘The Main Street Electrical Podcast’ and ‘The Deucecast Movie Show’ stopping by this week to talk about his live-action Disney crush, I thought – why not go over the non-animated movies that have warmed my heart time and time again, and even a new one that made the list thanks to David’s crush! Now, these are only movies that were in theaters and then later released on home video, so you won’t see the Disney Channel Original Movies, nor will the latest ‘Little Mermaid’ be here either because while I did enjoy it, we already talked about that and Prince Eric earlier this week. So let’s get into some live-action Disney movies that I’d definitely want in my movie collection.

Enchanted

David Dollar’s crush was on none other than Amy Adams from ‘Enchanted.’ Now, again, this is a movie I slept on and regretted it about 10 minutes into the movie because – wow. Such a delightful movie that’s not afraid to poke some fun at the fairy tale genre. Plus, Adams is undeniable as a Disney princess!

The Parent Trap

David also admitted to having a crush on a kid on Hayley Mills, the actress who brought ‘The Parent Trap’ to life first BUT that’s not my ‘Parent Trap.’ Mine stars Lindsay Lohan and, to me, is the superior version.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

This is probably in part due to me having the hugest crush on Rick Moranis, and also the oatmeal cream pie scene. As a fat kid, that scene lives rent-free in my mind, forever and always.

D2: The Mighty Ducks

One of the best trilogies in cinema, ‘The Mighty Ducks’ – like most kids’ sports movies – took a game I could care less about and made me enthralled, but if I had to pick a favorite, nothing compares to the sequel when the team heads out to LA.

Hocus Pocus

While ‘The Mighty Ducks’ soared with their sequel, ‘Hocus Pocus’ is a movie that should have remained a one-and-done sort of thing because the original is damn near perfect.

Blank Check

This is the wildest Disney movie – hell, movie. Please listen to me and Scott from ‘Writer’s Bagel Basket’ discuss how insane this one is, but at the end of the day…I still love it.

Heavyweights

You couldn’t be a fat kid in the ‘90s and not adore this movie. The only problem with it was that there were no big girls!

First Kid

Sinbad as a secret service agent tasked with protecting the President’s son? Hell. Yes.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie

Lizzie McGuire is probably one of my top 10 teen show characters, and she translated so well onto the big screen.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Some movies don’t hold up even five years down the line, but lemme tell ya, ‘Pirates‘ does. From the humor to the action to the graphics, it’s all still amazing 20 years later.
