Just like the years Smash Mouth sang of, life lessons also comin’ and they don’t stop comin’. From the moment we pop up out of our moms, we’re learning and taking in new things. Along the way those lessons eventually add to who we are; good or bad. Throughout this series, we’ve seen how Disney molded young millennials with grand, boisterous songs and questionable love stories, got into the idea of being cool, and discussed purity culture vs sex selling everywhere. As adults – millennials still kept learning, and are still learning as we ain’t done quite yet. However, as we all approach our 30-mid 40s, let’s continue to see what lessons were learned about crushes, love, and more in the millennial adulthood (so far).
Rom-coms are not Reality

Matthew McConaughey will not sweep you off your feet and meet-cutes aren’t as common as Nora Ephron made them out to be.
Hoe Phases are Necessary

If you don’t hoe out once in your life, you’re missing out on an opportunity to discover things about yourself both sexually, and personally.
Being Educated Doesn’t Mean You’re Smarter about Life

Some chose college, and some did not. That doesn’t mean those that didn’t aren’t still smart. It takes some brains to start a family and keep them alive and well in your 20s. Trust me, I couldn’t even keep a fish alive at 22.
Getting Married Young is Okay but Not for Everyone

If you married right after high school or soon after, that’s fine. However, don’t pressure those who are waiting. Marriage isn’t for everyone. Especially given the divorce rates.
Dating Apps Aren’t All Bad

Dating apps allow for window shopping.
Dating Takes Patience

So many won’t be lucky enough to find a perfect match the first, second, or even 15th time out.
Be Open for Surprises

Get out of your head about your “perfect” partner because in reality, perfection is unattainable and if something looks perfect – it’s likely fake. Anyways, broaden your horizons when dating, and you just might surprise yourself with what you’re actually looking for in the end.
Dating is Always Evolving

Right now people are swiping but before that they were meeting IRL, posting personal ads in the newspaper, and making weird VHS tapes. Just know that in a millennial’s lifetime – there will be more evolutions to how dating goes.
Millennials Just Move Differently with Love

Millennials were the first generation practically pushed from the womb right into college, and because of that – many put love on the back burner to focus on education and careers. So Boomers wanting grandkids, please sit down. Millennials will procreate when ready, and won’t if they’re not. Just leave them be.
Happily Ever Afters Don’t Come Easy

Relationships are nothing like romantic comedies or any genre really, except maybe horror. Just kidding, but in reality, healthy relationships take time and dedication. Not just a meet-cute and a job in publishing.
