Importance of Elementary School Crush

For many, elementary school is when their first real-life crush occurs. It’s a strange but somehow familiar feeling when it happens because it’s likely you have already felt it watching a Disney movie and crushing on either the prince or princess or in some people’s cases – the lion. We see you Simba lovers, and we’re not judging you. Animated loves aside, a real-life crush takes us to a new level in our crush evolution, which is why when Whitney Knox Lee of The Impostix Podcast came through with her own this week, I got excited to talk about the importance of this type of crush.

Crushes we have pre-elementary school on everything from the aforementioned cartoon characters to a random G.I. Joe figurine, those are more imaginative. Important as well, but they’re never really based on anything concrete. Yes, Robin Hood (the fox) is hot as hell but no matter how many times you’ve tried to come up with a realistic situation in which you could be together, nothing’s quite made sense. So while loving those initial crushes in life before you’re forced to spend time in a school setting for the next 13 or so years, they don’t give you anything genuine to hold onto. Those crushes build the framework for your crushes to come, but the next ones lay the early foundations.

An elementary school crush is the first time that you put actual weight into liking someone because they are a crush that breathes and you see on the regular, and can possibly interact with if you’re not too shy. This could be the crush that makes you admire blondes over brunettes, rebels over studious characters, kids with POGS vs kids without POGS. You get the idea. These are the crushes that set you up for a long while, that is until the hormones start to take over, but middle school crushes are a lot to get into so we won’t go there quite yet.

Elementary school crushes are an introduction to what’s to come. Not only who we’ll like, but also how we’ll likely react to them. Will we be the ones to be vocal about it and for after exactly what we want, or will we keep their name hidden in the mental diary that’s forever tucked away? That’s just another aspect of an elementary crush that makes it a crucial crush in the long run.

Whitney Knox Lee is here this week to tell us about the elementary school crush she had once upon a time, so find out how he laid the foundation for her.
